Women's tennis falls to #11 Methodist
LONGVIEW – The 11
th ranked Methodist University women's tennis team opened up their Texas spring break
trip with a 9-0 win over LeTourneau University Tuesday afternoon at the Davis Tennis Complex.
The Monarchs took the quick 3-0 lead after doubles. Caitlyn Hairell (San Marcos, Texas) and
Kerrie Nelson (Houston, Texas) fought hard, losing 8-4 to Rachel Purser and Dana
Powell. Powell (Richmond, Va.) had played for LeTourneau head coach Doug Carter on a US Jr.
National Team in Holland, back in the summer of 2006.
Methodist swept the singles matches, with many matches being closer than the score
indicated. The loss drops the women to 4-8 overall.
The men and women head out on the road Thursday for a conference slugfest with rival,
Mississippi College. The LETU men (12-1, 3-1), ranked 10
th regionally, will be missing #1 player Mark Taylor as they go out on their spring
