David Plunk returns to the helm as head women's soccer coach for his third season.
In the 2009 season, his team went 7-10-1. He helped guide YellowJackets midfielder Kirby Posey to the ASC Offensive Player of the Year honors. Amanda DeLeon was named to the third team, while Meredith Bowman, Stefani Davis, Brooke Kincaid and Natalie White were selected honorable mention. Also during the 2009 season, Plunk's squad took home the Silver Merit of Honor for Good Sportsmanship.
Plunk took over the UMHB men’s program in 1997, a year after the team finished 2-16. In his nine years at the helm, he led the Cru to four postseason appearances while compiling a 69-87-3 record. Additionally, he served as an assistant professor in the Exercise and Sports Science Department. Most recently, he served at Gainesville High School as head coach for the boy’s soccer team, and as cross country coach for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
"I am very excited about joining the coaching staff at LeTourneau and look forward to leading the women's soccer program in the years to come. I believe the soccer program has the full support of the administration, faculty, and the student body. That will make my experience here even that much more pleasant. I am very impressed by the players that we already have in place and personally feel that the team is very eager and willing to work hard for a conference championship."
“David (Plunk) has shown that he can succeed at the NCAA Division III level and is a
great fit for the LeTourneau University community,” said Trogdon. “I am very pleased to be
able to welcome him to LeTourneau and think he will provide a great benefit to our athletic program
as well as our Kinesiology Department.”
Prior to his nine years at UMHB, Plunk played soccer at Hardin-Simmons University and
graduated with a degree in All-Level Physical Education and Secondary Spanish in 1992.
He earned a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology and Bilingual Education in 1996 from Texas A&M-Kingsville. He worked one season at HSU as an assistant coach in the men’s soccer program before taking over as the head girl’s soccer coach at Azle High School. Plunk will begin his head coaching duties immediately and will begin teaching in the Fall ’08 semester.
David is married to wife Sheila and they have three daughters, Katie, 18, Kendra, 12 and Maci, 8.

Denee McKay enters her second season as assistant women's soccer coach.
McKay is very knowledgable about soccer, having lettered for the YellowJackets for four years. She also was a three-year letterman for the women's basketball team. During her collegiate soccer career, McKay was a three-time Academic All-American. She also garnered American Southwest College Defensive Player of the Week September 2007. Perhaps one of her biggest playing honors came during the 2007-08 season as she was named to the All-ASC Second Team as a goalkeeper. During her time at LeTourneau, McKay played and started as a forward, midfielder and goalkeeper.
Offensively, McKay finished her collegiate career at LeTourneau by being fifth in shots on goal, tied for fifth in game-winning goals, sixth in points, sixth in shots attempted and seventh in goals scored. Defensively, she ranks second in games played, second in goals against average, third in minutes, fourth in shutouts, fourth in wins, fourth in saves per game and fifth in saves.
McKay, who is the head coach for Freedom '95, is a graduate of
Cy-Springs High School in Houston, Texas. She graduated from LeTourneau in May of 2008 with a
Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology/Sports Management.
