Financial Aid FAQ
How do students qualify for financial aid?
Students can qualify for financial aid in two areas: academic achievement, in which scholarships and grants are based on grade point averages and SAT or ACT test scores, and financial need, in which Federal, state and some institutional grants and loans are awarded based on the family's ability to pay for college. The family's ability to pay is determined by information supplied on the FAFSA.
How do I apply for financial aid?
As soon as you and your parents complete your 2008 U.S. and state tax returns, you should complete the FAFSA. This is your application for all federal, state and institutional financial aid. All students are expected to file the FAFSA each year in order to receive scholarships or grants from LeTourneau University.
You will need to have a valid Social Security Number (SSN) to apply for federal student aid and complete the FAFSA. If you do not have an SSN, you should apply for one at your local Social Security Office.
What is LeTourneau University's FAFSA code?
LeTourneau University’s FAFSA code is 003584.
How is financial aid determined?
If you wish to apply for financial aid assistance, you will need to complete and submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on-line each year. The Department of Education will calculate your financial need and transmit the information to all of the colleges you have listed on the FAFSA.
Your financial aid award will be determined after the data from your FAFSA is on file in the Financial Aid Office and after you have been admitted to the university. New students who have submitted their FAFSA on-line by Feb. 15 and who have been admitted by March 1 will be given maximum consideration for financial assistance.
LeTourneau University does not require the completion of any supplemental forms which may be included with the FAFSA (e.g. an FAF form). If additional information is required, the Financial Aid Office will ask you to supply it directly.
You must submit a FAFSA each year you wish to apply for financial aid. Returning students must have all completed forms filed in the Financial Aid Office by Feb. 15 to be given maximum consideration for financial assistance for the following academic year. No student will be considered until the proper forms are completed and returned to the Financial Aid Office.
Do I have to re-apply for financial aid each year?
Yes. Your eligibility is determined one academic year at a time. The results from your 2009-2010 application are good only for the 2009-2010 academic year. Because your circumstances can change greatly from one year to the next, you must complete an application each academic year. Parents with more than one student in the family must file separate FAFSAs for each student.
What if I miss the Feb. 15 priority date?
Submit your application for admission and financial aid as soon as possible.
What if I am particularly interested in scholarships?
Apply for admission as early as possible. A limited number of scholarships are available. Any institutional scholarships for which you are eligible will be automatically awarded to you. If there are additional scholarships that you might eligible for, we will inform you before the respective deadlines. You should also be looking for local and other specific scholarship programs about which we may not know about.
What if I am looking for an alternative payment procedure?
Other than paying the total cost (minus financial aid) at registration, we have several payment plans available. For more information, contact our Student Accounts Office at (903) 233-4130. Payment plans are available through Tuition Management Services.
What if I am interested in Cooperative Education experience?
