Release of Student Academic Information to Parents

In recognition of parental contributions toward educational expenses for dependent students as defined in Section 152 of the Internal Revenue Code, this document was created to inform parents of enrolled students of their right of access to the educational records of their dependents. The FERPA Act of 1974, (Buckely Amendment) provides students and their parents with the right to inspect and review the educational records of students maintained by the school. However, the above provision does not include a requirement for LeTourneau University and other institutions to provide copies of the records, unless where circumstances are present which might prohibit or limit the inspection and review, such as distance.

The following information can be used to obtain student grades and/or progress reports concerning your dependent student. Mid-term Grade Reports are distributed to the students in October of the fall semester and March of the spring semester. Both Mid-Term and Final Grade Reports for each semester are provided via the web to the student.

To Obtain Grade and/or Student Progress Information Concerning Your Dependent Student(s)

  1. Complete and sign the parent certification portion of this form or have your dependent student complete the student authorization – parent release section.
  2. Return the completed form to the address or fax number indicated on the form.
  3. After the form has been received and processed by the Office of the Registrar, you may contact your student’s advisor for your dependent’s academic and/or program information. However, in order to obtain the information you are requesting and to protect the integrity of your dependent student’s academic record, you will need to provide the advisor with some basic information, such as your dependent's legal name, date of birth and student ID number.

For more information concerning privacy of student records, please see the privacy statement in the traditional catalog.
